What do I need to bring with me to class?
You will want to bring your swimsuit, boots, fins, snorkel and mask and a towel for the pool. You are also welcome to bring a drink and snack/food to the classroom.
Are open water evaluations extra?
No, the $495 includes open water certification and your checkout dives at the quarry in Hopkinsville.
I’m going on vacation; can I do my checkout dives on my vacation?
Yes, we can arrange that with a dive shop wherever you are vacationing. That is an extra cost, which is paid to the dive shop you are using for checkouts.
How long does it take to become a certified diver?
Our condensed class will last one weekend. Friday evening, Saturday and Sunday. You will have classroom and pool instruction all 3 days. Then you will schedule open water checkout dives which consists of 2 days (usually weekends).
My open water certification is in the winter. can I practice my skills before checkouts in the summer?
Yes, after class completion you are then able to go to the downtown YMCA pool anytime we have access in order to practice your skills.
Do I need to do try scuba before I register for open water certification?
No, we suggest to go straight to the open water certification. Try scuba is not required. If you choose to take try scuba 1st, your $45 try scuba class fee will be applied to your account and deducted from your cost of open water certification if you decide to get certified.
